JAIL MARRIAGES

"...There are three things that will endure-faith, hope, and love - and the greatest of these is love."

1 Corinthians 13:13

Is it your desire to marry your "Love" and he or she is an inmate in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura or San Diego County?

If your answer is Yes, I can help you with the process of getting you married to the one you "Love"!

Here are the steps that you must take when your "Love" is unable to appear because of their incarceration:

Step 1

Before the County Recorder will issue a marriage license, they require three (3) identifications.  These identifications will be from the bride, groom and the officiant who will be performing the wedding ceremony.  The identification  must be valid, an original and in good condition. If the incarcerated person does not have valid identification available, please call me for more information.

Note:  Acceptable photo  identification are:

Driver's License

State Identification Card ( In California, this card is issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.  Identification cards issued by other states may be issued by an agency or department other than their Department of Motor Vehicles)

Military Service or Military Dependent Identification Card

Naturalization Certificate

Passport

Alien Registration Card (Form 1551 aka Green Card)

Identification Card issued by the US Government or Identification Card issued by another country

Matricula Consular Status (if all of required information is on card)

Also, if the incarcerated person's California's driver's license or identification card has expired, DMV has advised me that if a  notarized Power of Attorney is presented and along with the appropriate DMV paperwork and pay the necessary fees,  they will then process the request,  thus issuing and updating the card from expired to valid.

Step 2

At this step, a "Inability to Appear" package must be obtained from the County Recorder or as a convenience to you, I can mail, fax or email this package to you.

This package consists of the "Procedures for obtaining a marriage license when one party is unable to appear", the "Affidavit of Inability to Appear..." and the "Marriage License Application."

In this step, the notary will have the incarcerated person sign both  the affidavit of inability to appear form and the marriage license application along with completing a notary certificate, which is the Juat, to be attached to those signed documents

(For Men's Central Jail, it is suggested, if possible, that you get his signature notarized at his court hearing)

Step 3

After notarization, the bride or groom, and the officiant must appear together at the County Recorder with all 3 valid identifications and the inability to appear form, the marriage license application  and the completed and notarized Jurat form. The request for the marriage license is processed and if there are no problems, the license  fee is paid and the marriage license is issued  the same day, provided we are there at least 1 to 2 hours before the County Recorder closes for the day.

Step 4

Now that you have your marriage license, choose your dates and follow the facilities procedures for "inmate weddings".

Step 5

After being approved, notify the officiant of the date, time and facility that you would like the wedding ceremony to take place.  The officiant will show up at the facility on the date and time you have chosen and perform your wedding ceremony.  The wedding ceremony usually takes place during normal visiting hours through glass.

Step 6

After the ceremony, the officiant will complete the wedding license and file it with the County Recorder. After the filing of your marriage license/certificate, a certified copy of your marriage license/certification can be obtained after 6 to 8 weeks of the filing.  Expedited service of your license/certificate is available through Express Mail.  This request must be made at the same time the marriage license/certificate is being turned in to the County Recorder by the officiant.

JAIL MARRIAGES FEE

(please call for fee quote)

The quoted fee includes traveling to the County Recorder to take an oath on behalf of the absent party, travel to the facility, the wedding ceremony and the completing and filing of the marriage license.

There is a $100.00 nonrefundable deposit required. This deposit will secure my services as your wedding officiant and is subtracted from your total cost.

The $100.00 deposit is due when we meet at the County Recorder to apply for your marriage license.  The balance of the fee must be paid when we meet at the facility before the ceremony takes place.

There is an extra charge of $100.00 if you would like your wedding ceremony to be held on Christmas, New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.

Other Fees

If I must return back to the County Recorder with the bride or groom because the paperwork is incorrect or any other unforeseen circumstances, there will be a $30.00 fee for each time that I must return back to the County Recorder. This will be added to the total cost.

If I am unable to perform the wedding ceremony  because of lockdown, medical, or any other unforeseen circumstances,  a travel fee will be charged. The fee will be quoted when location of facility is known.

Inmate Wedding FAQ

In California, wedding ceremonies that are performed over the phone are not legal thus making a marriage INVALID!  There are people out there that say that marriage ceremonies can be done over the phone - please don't risk the validity of your marriage!!!

A notary who notarizes the inmate's signatures', cannot be the one who performs the wedding ceremony!

If anyone tells you that they can sell you a marriage license, please do not purchase the license.   Marriage licenses must be obtained and purchased from the County Recorder!
